Land Acknowledgement

Wild Light Garden Collective was dreamt about and resides on land that includes ancestral territories of the Osage and Shawandasse Tula (Shawanwaki/Shawnee) and other Indigenous peoples. We recognize and appreciate those Indigenous nations whose territories we are living on and working in. It is important that we also recognize that colonialism is a current, ongoing process. As humans seeking truth, understanding, justice, and reparations, we remain mindful of our present participation in this process, and particularly as we engage with the natural world. We recognize that many of the farming practices currently described as regenerative are deeply rooted in traditional methods across cultures, classes, and historical time frames. We honor the originators of those practices and the ecological expertise with which they were developed and implemented, as we recognize the troubled history of agriculture in our home country, and the harm caused against historically marginalized farmers. In order to be effective, agriculture shouldn’t only protect and preserve the health of the soil and the environment – we also recognize its powerful potential as a solution, not only to ensure food security through production of more food, fiber and energy, but also as a provider of vital environmental services such as clean air, water, habitat and biodiversity, and a catalyst for changing how we humans interact with one another and the environment. We believe that our society has the potential to shift towards sharing knowledge, creating abundance, increasing resilience, strength and unity through diversity. Afterall, in nature, diversity is required for survival.
